Leggett Seeks Applicants for Cable and Communications Advisory Committee

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill five vacancies on the Cable and Communications Advisory Committee. Two incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.

The Advisory Committee has 15 voting members, which include one representative selected by the Montgomery County Chapter of the Maryland Municipal League; one representative selected by the City of Rockville; and one representative selected by the City of Takoma Park. Public members should broadly represent technology areas.

The Committee advises the County Executive and Council on franchise agreements between the County government and providers of cable television service. It also advises on the use of funds provided by cable operators to support local television programming and other cable related activities.

Meetings are held the fourth Wednesday evening of each month in Rockville. Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Individuals selected for appointment must file a confidential financial disclosure statement within fifteen days of Council confirmation and annually thereafter.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Community Action Board

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill six vacancies on the County Community Action Board for representatives of low-income residents from various geographic areas in the County. The federal legislation establishing governing boards for federally-funded Community Action Agencies requires that members representing low-income people on the Community Action Board be democratically elected. Therefore, low-income applicants should include a letter from a group (such as a neighborhood association, faith, parent group or civic organization) indicating the nominee’s elected status and signed by the group’s authorized representative.

The Community Action Board governs the Community Action Agency, which creates and maintains community action programs to encourage the use of public and private resources to enable low-income people to become self-sufficient; to reduce poverty in the County; to involve the low-income population in developing and carrying out anti-poverty programs in the County; and to make government more responsive to the needs of low-income people. The Board advises the County Executive and the County Council on matters relating to the needs of poor and low-income individuals and families.

Members serve one, two and three year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held nine times per year on the fourth Tuesday evening each month (except July, August, and December), at 7:00 PM. in Rockville.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Human Rights Commission

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill five vacancies on the Human Rights Commission. The incumbent members are eligible to apply for reappointment.

The 15-member commission promotes equal rights and opportunities for all persons. Commissioners are expected to serve on special or standing committees and participate in activities requiring involvement in the community. Commissioners serve on case review boards consisting of three individuals that consider and decide each complaint that the Director certifies to the Commission.

Members serve three year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Regular meetings are held the fourth Monday evening of each month in Rockville. Appointed members are required to file a confidential financial disclosure statement within fifteen days of Council confirmation and annually thereafter.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Department of Permitting Services Advisory Committee

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill four vacancies on the Department of Permitting Services Advisory Committee for: one active member of a civic organization in the County, two active members of environmental organizations in the County, and one member active in land development or a related profession. One incumbent is eligible to apply for reappointment.

The Committee is composed of 17 members, including representatives of the Departments of Environmental Protection, Housing and Community Affairs, Transportation, and representatives of the Fire Chief, the Planning Board, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, and each of the County’s five regional service center advisory boards.

The Department of Permitting Services reviews construction plans and specifications, permits and licensing facilities, and is responsible for code enforcement, inspections and licenses. The Committee must advise the Department on performance of its functions and recommend to the Director, the Executive, and the Council any steps necessary to improve performance.

Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held the second Tuesday evening of every month from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM in Rockville.
