True Friendship
(Philippians 1:1-11)
Rev. Neil Kim
I. Partnership in the Gospel establishes a true friendship (v. 5)
Focus must be on Jesus.
Relationship is built and maintained through participating in God’s work.
II. A true friendship requires loyalty (v. 5)
III. A true friendship is built through prayers (v. 4)
When you start praying for others, two things will happen.
God begins to move
God will give you joy in your heart (vv. 3-4).
IV. A true friendship requires patience (v. 6)
What God begins, he will finish.
We need to be patient. Change takes time. We are always going to be works in progress.
V. What should we pray for our friends?
Pray that they may grow in love (v. 9)
Pray that they may have discernment (v. 10)
Pray that they may be pure and blameless (v. 10)
Pray that they may be spiritually fruitful (v. 11)
Vi. Applications:
Do you have people placed around you that make you feel miserable? What seems to be the reason? Are you praying for them? If you’re praying for them, with what attitude are you praying?
It’s always encouraging to know someone is praying for you. Are you praying for someone? If you do, let them know that you’re praying for them.
