History of NCFC

How It All Began

New Covenant Fellowship Church began with a group of 17 people praying and meeting together in the home of Dr. W. Jamie Kim, the founding pastor. At that time the English–speaking congregation consisted of three young couples and a handful of single people. On September 9, 1990, our first service was held at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD. In our first two years, NCFC experienced phenomenal growth: the church grew from 17 to 500!

Our passion for worship and powerful teaching from the Word of God has continued to bring new people through our doors, and we’ve welcomed the life–giving presence and work of the Holy Spirit throughout our community. As a result, in August 1992, we moved into a new building on Research Blvd. in Rockville. But we quickly outgrew that space as well. So in January 1998, we bought a plot of land in Germantown, MD that was to become our current church building. In the spring of 2001, we finished construction and moved in with excitement and anticipation as we faced this new chapter in our life as a church.

The Present…

Today, NCFC has grown into a body of about 2000 people spanning two separate campuses (in Maryland and Northern Virginia), each with two congregations (Korean–speaking and English–speaking). We hold a total of five services each weekend, but we all remain committed to serving and loving as one body.

The English-speaking congregation (EC) is quickly becoming a multi-ethnic family of believers from all walks of life. Our small groups—called our "Oikos" ministry (from the Greek word for "family")—are an essential part of our church life. And we work hard to meet the individual needs of all our community members, in all life stages: married couples, singles, college–aged, youth, elementary, and preschoolers, and beyond. We are also dedicated to performing outreach in our local and global communities through ministries such as Salt & Light and our World Missions board.

Moving Forward…

Looking back on the last twenty years, we are so thankful for God’s favor and blessing upon our church—He has been so good to us! We look forward to the future that God has in store for us, and we are firmly committed to the task of building up God’s Kingdom in this generation. As we continue to grow in our understanding of what that means, we continue to put our whole trust in God. We’re excited to see how He surprises us next!
