Entering into the King’s Throne Room
(Book of Esther)
Rev. Sara Pyon
I. Esther’s humble beginnings prepare her for her destiny
She was an orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai
She learned submission & humility early on (2:8-9, 15)
Esther becomes the new queen
II. Haman devises a plan to annihilate the Jews
III. Mordecai challenges Esther to submit to God’s calling (4:12-14)
IV. Esther decides to enter the king’s throne room: “If I perish, I perish.”
Esther understood God’s sovereign grace and favor upon her (4:14b)
Esther’s fear of God was greater than the fear of man (4:14a)
Fear of God’s punishment
Fear of missing out on God’s ultimate purpose for her life
It was not Esther’s position (ability), but her willingness to lose it (availability), that saved the Israelites
She humbled herself before God’s throne before approaching the king’s throne (4:15-16)
The enemy’s evil scheme backfired (9:20-22, 25)
V. God has called us for “such a time as this.” Let us approach His throne of grace with
confidence (Hebrews 4:15-16)
VI. Reflection questions
How has your upbringing impacted who you are today? If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be and why?
What is the most heroic thing that you’ve ever done for someone else?
What resources (position, money, intellect, talent, etc.) do you have that God may be able to use to save lives, physically and/or spiritually? Are you being a good steward of His blessings upon your life?
