What Kind of Disciple are You?
(Luke 5:1-11)
Rev. Dave Chang
I. True disciples live a life of faith (vv. 4-7)
Faith requires trusting in Jesus Christ (vv. 4-5)
Faith requires obedience to Jesus Christ (vv. 5-7)
II. True disciples live a life of worship (vv. 8-10)
We worship with humility (v. 8)
We worship with awe (vv. 9-10)
III. True disciples live a life of surrender (vv. 10-11)
We surrender to the will of God (v. 10)
We surrender everything of ours (v. 11)
IV. Application
Sometimes trusting in Jesus and obeying him doesn’t always make sense, but it is necessary if we are to be true disciples of Jesus. What are some of the things you are struggling with in regard to trusting and obeying Jesus?
How is our Lord bringing you to your knees in humility, and at the same time making you stand in awe of Him? It is this kind of worship that is necessary if we are to be true disciples.
Essentially, God has to be our first love and our first priority in life (Matt. 10:37-39). This is not easy to do! But it is this kind of surrender that is necessary if we are to be true disciples. Salvation is free, but discipleship comes at a cost. So what kind of disciple are you, and what kind of disciples are you making?
