 (43) Follow My Example
(John 13:1-17)
Rev. Sara Pyon

 I. What Happened?
Jesus washed the disciples’ feet
Judas Iscariot was included (vv. 10-11)

II. Why Did He Do It?
To show the full extent of His Love (v. 1b)
To set an example for us (vv. 7, 14-16; Phil.2 1-4)
To show the best defense against the enemy

 III. How Was It Possible?
Jesus knew what hour it was (v. 1)
Jesus was driven by His love (v. 1)
Jesus knew His identity and His mission (v. 3)

IV. Jesus’ Example Shows (vv. 5-11; Phil. 2:5-8)
Humility
Self-sacrifice
We will be blessed if we follow His example (v. 17; Phil.2:9-11)

 V. Application
Jesus ‘washed your feet’ when He willingly died on the cross (Phil. 2:5-8) for you. Who is one person that God is prompting you to kneel down and wash his/her feet?   Remember His command is more for your benefit than for the other person.
Jesus was able to do the lowly foot-washing task because He knew who He was and what He came to do.  As the Son of God, who He was could NOT be changed by what He did or did not do.
How confident are you about your identity?
What do people say about you?  What do you say about yourself?
What does God say about you?   How will you live out this truth this week?
