Fear-Based Reaction vs. Faith-Based Response
(Jonah 3:1-10)
Rev. Sara Pyon
I. Jonah’s fear-based reaction to God’s command (Chapter 1)
II. Jonah’s fear of men replaced by fear of God (Chapter 2)
III. Jonah’s faith-based response to God’s second chance (3:1-4)
IV. The Ninevites repent (3:5-9)
They fast & put on sackcloth.
They cry out to God.
They turn from their evil ways.
V. God responds to their repentance with compassion (3:10)
VI. Reflection
Can you think of a time in your life when fear caused you to disobey God and regret later?
Have you ever experienced God’s second chance after you’ve blown it? How did you respond?
Is there any area of your life that you need to humble yourself and desperately seek God’s mercy? Is so, are you willing to repent? If not, why not?
