Don’t Trust Your Flesh and Move Forward
(Philippians 3:1-16)
Rev. Neil Kim
Don’t Trust Your Flesh (Philippians 3:1-11)
I. True characteristics of believers
They worship the Lord in Spirit (v. 3)
Their heart is intimate with God (v. 3)
They rejoiced in Jesus (v. 1)
II. Where do we put our confidence?
Do not put your confidence in the flesh (vv. 4-6)
Confidence in Jesus is only needed (vv. 7-8)
In order to gain Jesus, you must let go of fleshly confidence. You can’t have both.
III. Paul had his heart completely focused on Jesus (vv. 9-11)
Moving Forward (Philippians 3:12-16)
IV. You must face the present reality (v. 12)
How did Jesus impact your life?
Are you putting your faith in Jesus and trust him that he is involved with every areas of your life now?
V. Forgetting what happened in the past (v. 13)
Forget the bad.
Forget the good too.
VI. Moving forward what is ahead
Regardless of what kind of past you’ve had, in Jesus, you can move on to better things. (v. 13b)
For Paul, I’ve done my best was not enough (v. 13)
But one thing you need to do, you must press on (v. 14)
Application
God always leaves a thorn in any gathering of believers. You may have more than one. Share one thing that bothers you the most and how are you going to handle it.
Paul challenges us that we must live each day to the fullest which means don’t put off things which you can do today. Is there anything that you’ve been putting it off which you need to do today? What are you going to do about it?
Paul says doing our best is not good enough, and we must continue to better. How do you feel about this challenge?
