Noah
(Genesis 6-9)
Rev. Neil Kim
I. Noah was:
Favored by God (Gen. 6:8)
When Noah gained favor from God, he had special access to God, and through that access, he received power to live a righteous life.
A righteous man (Gen. 6:9)
Noah’s righteousness didn’t come from his good works; his good works came because of his righteousness.
A blameless man (Gen. 6:9)
Blameless doesn’t mean “sinless.” It means “having integrity.” Noah’s conduct was such that his neighbors couldn’t find fault with him.
A man who walked with God (Gen. 6:9)
His life of faith and obedience lead him to a daily walk, a step at a time, as God directed him.
An obedient man (Gen. 6:22)
It wasn’t easy for Noah and his family to obey the Lord, because the rest of the people were disobeying God and rebelling against His will. Yet Noah was obedient to the Lord.
A patient and faithful man (Gen. 6:22)
Building an ark was quite an achievement. Noah's greatest accomplishment, however, was his faithful commitment to obey and walk with God all the days of his life.
A man who trusted God’s promise (Gen 6:18)
He endured the ark-building project which took 120 years, and ridicule and criticism of his time because he never doubted God’s promise.
A man with weaknesses (Gen. 9:18-23)
II. Application
What does it mean to “walk” with God? In what ways is “walking” a life we’re meant to live?
What types of peer pressure do you have a hard time resisting? Share your successes and failures in dealing with peer pressure.
Noah had to wait on God until the flood was over. Share your experiences on when you had to wait on God’s timing.
