God’s Patience
(Exodus 3:1-20)
Rev. Neil Kim
Moses is one of the most prominent figures in the Old Testament. God specifically chose Moses to lead the Israelites from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land. Moses is most recognized leader and hero in the history of Israel. But before we conclude our assessment on who Moses was, we should ask, “Did God choose Moses as a leader to rescue the Israelites because he was a man with full of faith and courage?” or “In spite of lacking faith and courage Moses had to take on the responsibility of rescuing Israelites because he had no other choice?”
I. What was Moses’s response to God when He said, “So now, go. I am sending you to
Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt?” (vv. 10-11)
II. Jehovah God is humble, gentle and patient God. (vv. 12-15)
III. God is the One who is doing the work (vv. 16-22)
IV. Moses is still resisting, but God is not giving up (4:1-17)
V. Finally Moses we’ve been expecting shows up (14:10-13)
VI. Lessons learned
God didn’t choose Moses as a leader because he was a man with full of faith and courage.
If God is the one who made Moses to surrender, then He is the one to whom we can also surrender our life. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
So don’t be envious of Moses, rather, believe in incredibly patient and gentle God who never gave up on Moses will never give up on you.
VII. Application
Is there any area of your life that you haven’t been able to fully surrender to God?
What kind of message is God trying to say to you through Moses’s past rebellious behaviors?
Do you have any disappointment, bitterness or resentment from serving God in the past? How do you feel about it now after seeing how God dealt with Moses?
