I. Current State (v. 12)
Imperfection
Progressing towards perfection

II. What It Takes (vv. 13-16)
Be Focused on the Goal (3:8-11, Heb 12:1)
Be Determined: It’s a life-long process (v. 14)
Forget the past and look forward to what lies ahead (v. 13)
Don’t rely on past successes
Don’t get hung up past failures
Hold on to the progress we have already made (v. 16)

III. Application
What are some hindrances you can identify in your spiritual journey that prevents you from pressing on towards the goal?
A runner cannot successfully finish a race unless he/she is physically ready (fit) to run the race. How are you preparing yourself daily to finish the life-long marathon of your spiritual journey?
We need to learn to graciously accept and encourage our brothers and sisters who may experiences struggles in their journey knowing that our journey is a life-long process. Remind and help each other to hold on to the progress they have already made (v. 16) and press on because we are all in this together.
