Fear of the Lord Leads to Trust
(Exodus 14:10-31)
Rev. Mark Kosko
I. The Israelites were terrified during the Exodus
They feared the mighty Egyptian army bearing down upon them
They began to doubt Moses’ leadership and regretted God’s providence
In the face of death they lost all trust and faith in God and Moses
II. God allowed the doubt and fear
It was a demonstration of His power over the might of chariots and iron
Once they saw the bodies washing up upon the shore the Israelites no longer feared man but instead feared the Lord
And then they put their trust in God and his servant Moses
III. Not all crisis is an spiritual battle
Our fear of the world must not replace our fear and reverence of the Lord
Submitting to church leadership is a challenge
But from crisis emerges trust and faith according to God’s will and purpose
IV. Reflection on the passage:
Have you ever experience hardship or true crisis? Did it cause a crisis of faith in God? Do you accept or reject the possibility that it may have come from God all along to drive you to him?
