Isaac: To Be Used by God Was No Laughing Matter
Rev. Mark Kosko
I. Isaac was an imperfect man used for God’s perfect plan
Baby Isaac was a fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah
God rarely interacted with Isaac directly but blessed him immensely through God’s promises to Abraham
His son Jacob became the nation of Israel
II. Boyhood Trauma! (Genesis 22:1-14)
The traumatic moment as a young boy about to be sacrificed was a brutal introduction to God’s sovereign plan
A naiveté as dutiful son gave way to harsh rite of passage
III. A family history of dysfunction
Blessed in marriage but he lied to the Philistine about Rebekah to save his own life. (Gen 26:9)
As a father Isaac played favorites and was lied to by his son Jacob; his wife plotted behind his back; Esau wanted to kill his brother for the lies. (Gen 27)
God’s promises transcend all human conflict!
Observations of God’s Providence: God does not perfect those he decides to carry out His will. Character flaws and family drama are no match for God’s greater purpose. God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ Jesus.
