Clothe Yourself with Compassion
(Luke 15:11-32)
Pastor Keeyoung Kim
I. The younger brother sinned
The significance of inheritance
The significance of his actions and their consequences
II. The younger brother “came to his senses”
He compared himself to a servant
He calculated his own worth to the father, as a servant not a son
III. The compassion of the father
The true meaning of compassion
Jesus’ compassion
For the lost/misguided
For the hungry
For the sick
IV. The older brother’s folly
V. Application
Be honest with yourself. Would you identify more with the younger son, father, or older brother in this parable? Why?
What instances can you recall where Jesus showed compassion? How did that impact the people around him?
Compassion is not just feeling sympathy or empathy for someone or a particular situation. Action must take place. In what specific area of your life is God asking you to BE compassionate in your life NOW (to have a heart for someone/something but also to take action)?
Pray for greater compassion. Partner up with someone and keep each other accountable to question #3.
