James & Denese Forkkio's Newsletter - 1/10/13
It has truly been a year of
God’s abundant grace! Each day our LORD has carried us, showing over and over
how amazing He is. It has been a challenging time and through it all God has
continually demonstrated His patient persistence to mold us into the image of
Christ.
As we look back over the year,
we see the spiritual journey that we have travelled. We have experienced
disappointments and shattered perceptions, as well as joys and victories. Through
it all, God has shown us that our hope must be in Him alone.
We have found that though
officially Ghana is primarily a Christian nation, true believers are the
minority. More often, our Savior is used as a talisman. Businesses have
religious sounding names in hopes of prosperity. Taxi cabs have religious
slogans on their windows in an attempt to ensure safety. Pastors are among the
most unscrupulous in society. And yet, God is sovereign and He is still at work
in Ghana.
We have seen
a dozen people come to Christ through our testimony. That is what it is all
about. In Revelation 12:11 (NKJV), God said, “they overcame him [Satan] by
the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Every time you
or I lead someone to Christ, Scripture is being fulfilled through us. What an
awesome privilege!!
Another reason for rejoicing is the
refreshment God has given us when we needed it most. After a challenging year,
God provided us the opportunity to attend a mission retreat in Cape Coast. What
a lovely time to meet other missionaries and enjoy the beauty of God’s
creation!!
We had a
good laugh at Christmas. Just as we were dozing off to sleep, one of our
Ghanaian friends sent us a text saying he had sent a friend to our house to
stay with us. We were shocked that he would make such a presumption without
asking us. We were out of town anyway, so Denese sent him a text saying,
“Sorry, we are out of town.” Once we were fully awake, we read the rest of the
text…the friend was Jesus. Talk about “no room at the inn!” We are missionaries
and we had just sent a text saying Jesus couldn’t stay with us because we were
out of town. By God’s grace, the text didn’t go through, but it was very funny.
Thank you to
all of you who travel this journey with us through your prayers and support.
You are a precious gift to us. May God richly bless you each and every one of
you! We love and miss you all!
Prayer Requests
Please pray that we would be bold and diligent in sharing the gospel.
Please pray for wisdom and guidance to know God’s plan for us.
Please pray for all of the illiterate women we serve to get audio Bibles so
they can hear the Word of God in their own language.
Please pray for God’s blessing for the children living on the streets of Accra.
