James & Denese Forkkio newsletter (10-25-12)
FORKKIO NEWSLETTER
Greetings in the name
of the Lord Jesus Christ!
Whenever we sit down to write to you, we are always reminded
of the salutations in Paul’s epistles. You are indeed beloved to us and our
hearts long to see each of you. As you in the U.S. are celebrating Pastor
Appreciation Month, we long for home even more. All of you who are pastors have
made such an impact on us. The love and nurturing you have lavished on us is a
true reflection of the wonderful Savior we serve. Thank you from the bottom of
our hearts!
The angels in heaven are rejoicing over the soul of Akua
Golo. She lives in a very far away village and came to Christ when James
witnessed to her using John 11:25-26. God has been using those verses quite a
lot lately.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He
who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and
believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (NKJV)
Thank God for His Word that is “living and powerful.” Hebrews
4:12 (NKJV)
Speaking of “Word,” our language lessons are continuing. God
has provided us with a great teacher. Now as we listen to people speak Ewe, we
are beginning to hear words and phrases that we have learned in class. We are
even learning biblical phrases like Bread of Life (Agbebolo). We are still in
the infancy of our learning, but it is encouraging to see progress.
Praise God with us! We have found a good physical therapist
for Denese at a hospital that is only about an hour and a half away. It would
be a little scary to be an inpatient at the hospital, but the physical therapy
department is more advanced than we had expected.
Another praise report is that James survived a malaria
attack. He was very sick, but he is doing great now!
Thanks be to God!
As we travel this
journey, we are learning that much more is involved in missions than actual
“ministry.” There are so many mundane things that have to be done, that it can
get frustrating at times. Meetings with government officials, meetings with
other Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s), investigative interviews, even
day-to-day life in a third world country…all take up time that we would like to
spend preaching the Gospel. However, we are trying to learn to look at every
situation as an opportunity for ministry. In fact, more people have come to
Christ while we have been conducting interviews than came to Christ when we
were going out solely for the purpose of evangelism. It reminds us that no
matter how insignificant the task may seem, God will accomplish His will if we
are obedient.
