“About the Last Days”
2 Peter 3:1-18
I. You Must Remember (vv. 1-2)
II. You Must Understand (vv. 3-7)
1. Scoffers will come
2. They deliberately forget
3. God is patient
4. God wants to save everyone
5. The Day of the Lord will come like a thief
III. You Must Respond (vv. 8-18)
1. By not forgetting
2. By looking forward to God’s promise
3. By making every effort to live a holy life
4. By not being carried away by false teachers
5. By continuing to grow both in grace and knowledge
IV. Application
1. The Apostle Peter continues to emphasize the danger of false teachers and warns the people to pay attention to what they have been taught. This cannot be overemphasized in our days either. We must have knowledge in order to fight off false teachers.
2. The scoffers scoffed at the church’s teaching, especially on the teaching of the “last days.” This still goes on obviously in our days as well. What is your attitude toward the “last days?”
3. Peter admonishes us to continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. How do you plan to do this?
