“We Are Family”
Rev. Jason Kim
Ephesians 2:19-22
The meaning of Ecclesia
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special
possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness
into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
“If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s
household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the
truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15
“Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father.
Treat younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, and younger women
as sisters, with absolute purity.” 1 Timothy 5:1-2
I. A family of God puts God first
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your
mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it:
‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these
two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40
II. A family of God has expectations
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him
be glory both now and forever! Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18
“Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but
as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid
food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.”
1 Corinthians 3:1-2
III. A family of God sticks together in all circumstances
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2
“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none
of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Hebrews 3:13
