The Power of Prayer
(Acts 4:23-31)
Rev. Eugene Cha
I. If you know the power of prayer you know how to respond (vv. 23-24a)
Peter and John were put in jail and threatened by the Sanhedrin then released
When the people heard the news, they prayed
II. If you know the power of prayer you know that God is in control (vv.24)
The people recognized God as the Creator and Ruler
No one can stand up against His will for even a moment
III. If you know the power of prayer you know that God works through opposition (vv. 25-28)
Herod and Pilate unknowingly helped fulfill God’s plan
Peter and John did not retaliate
IV. If you know the power of prayer you seek courage from above (v. 29)
Peter and John prayed because they were dealing with fear
They wanted boldness to speak God’s word
V. If you know the power of prayer you believe God can do miracles (v. 30)
Peter and John wanted miracles so people could come to believe in God
They were all about God and not themselves
VI. If you know the power of prayer you know it leads to effective evangelism
(v. 31)
Peter and John were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke God’s word boldly
Effective evangelism starts with prayer
VII. Application
Do you know the power of prayer?
Do you really believe that God is in control?
How do we respond to opposition?
Are we praying for those who do not know God yet?
