Elijah: Feeling Blue
(1 Kings 19)
Rev. Neil Kim
I. Spiritual Downtime (vv. 1-3)
With success comes stress. Elijah was physically exhausted and emotionally spent. He hit bottom. Now, after a great victory, he fell to discouragement and depression.
It’s very encouraging that the Bible tells us Elijah was just like us. He was a human being, he wasn’t supernatural.
II. What caused Elijah’s down fall?
He became afraid (v. 3)
He was downgrading his own worth (v. 4).
He was blaming himself (v. 10).
He was making his problem bigger than what it was (v. 10).
III. Way to recovery
God allows Elijah a time of rest and refreshment (vv. 5-8)
Letting it out to God (vv. 10, 14)
Then God talks and communicates with Elijah, “What’s going on? What are you doing here, Elijah?” (v. 9)
God always deal with us with kindness and gentleness. His desire is to restore gently so that we can refocus on Him again.
IV. Application
Do you feel you are all alone sometime? How do you handle yourself in that situation?
After a great victory on Mount Carmel, Elijah fell into depression. How did God restore him.
