Joseph: When You Pursue God’s Dream
(Genesis 37-50)
Rev. Neil Kim

 I. What was the problem with Joseph?
Joseph took the dream literally that one day he will rule over his family, and he began to act like one already.
Jacob’s favoritism had effects in Joseph’s youthful pride.
He didn’t have a clear understanding of God’s vision for his life.

II. God had to work on Joseph’s character before he was ready to take on God’s vision.
God’s vision and your character must work hand in hand.

III. Joseph’s life gives insights into how God sovereignly works to overcome evil and bring about God’s plan when you pursue God’s vision in your life.
Hated and anger (45:5,7-8)
Sufferings and hardships.
Temptation (39:11-12)
Injustice (37:28; 39:11-20)
Doubts (45: 4-8)
Mercy (50:18-21)

IV. Joseph experienced God’s presence when he pursued God’s dream.
God’s faithfulness (39:3,5,21,23).
Both Potiphar and the prison warden saw the Lord was with Joseph.

 V. Ultimate purpose of God’s dream for Joseph was to save lives.

VI. Application
By Joseph’s own testimony, his sufferings had been allowed by God. Why did God allow bad things to happen to Joseph?
How did God use the suffering Joseph experienced?
