Laying it Down
(Matthew 11:28-30)
Rev. Neil Kim
I. We all face problem of weariness and burdens (v. 28)
II. Jesus offers us rest from our weariness and burdens (v. 28)
He promises to give rest to everyone who comes to him.
There are no pre-qualifications, and no discrimination. Everyone is welcome.
“Come” means:
It is to leave one thing and move to another.
“Now”
Jesus is personally inviting you to Himself.
III. Jesus tells us on how we can receive His rest (v. 29)
You are to find real rest by putting on a new yoke.
The yoke is a place of work and a place of Learning.
Jesus desires us to be yoked together with Him so He can teach us and work with us.
IV. Only Jesus can give true rest for your soul (v. 29)
V. His yoke is easy and His burden is light (v. 30)
Why is he saying that? Because it is not a work, rather it is discovering what we already received from Him.
VI. Application
Are you weary and tired? Jesus is calling all those who are weary and tired, and He promises you rest if you come to Him. Have you come to Him? If not, what is preventing you from doing so?
Laying down your weariness and burdens is not good enough to find true rest. Jesus says you are to find real rest by putting on a new yoke and bearing a new burden. Why is it so?
