Mary Rejoiced As Only A Mother Could Do
Rev. Mark Kosko
(Luke 1:26-38, 46-55)
I. Mary’s background (vv. 26-27)
She was a common ordinary young woman
From a small town engaged to a carpenter.
II. God’s perspective of Mary
Mary was highly favored by God (v. 28)
The Lord was with her
For nothing is impossible with God (v. 37)
III. Her response to be chosen by God to raise His Son
Her soul glorified the Lord (v. 46)
She rejoiced because God was mindful of His humble servant (vv. 47-48)
She was obedient to God’s calling and did not resist this awesome responsibility
IV. Reflection:
It seems as though Mary was favored by God for this incredible role as the Savior’s mother not because of any particular status or ability but simply because she was faithful to God. God provided all the love, patience and wisdom Mary and Joseph needed as parents according to His will. Do we have the faith to submit to God’s will over something as important to us such as our children?
