(7) The Good News in the Gibeonites’ Deception

 I. The two different responses to the works of God
Kings of Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites waged war (v. 1)
People of Gibeon sought mercy (v. 2)

 II. The Gibeonites’ plan to deceive Israel (vv. 3-14)

 III. As a response to the works of God, the people of Gibeon were prepared to become
      servants to Israel (v. 11)

 IV. Joshua and the Israelites’ were deceived and made a covenant with the people of
      Gibeon (vv. 15-20)

They did not inquire of the Lord
One wrong decision led to disobedience of the law

 V. Israel and Gibeonites come to an agreement (vv. 22-26)
Israelites unable to follow God’s commands, Gibeonites are cursed
The fear of God compels Gibeonites to surrender to His will

 VII. Application
Remember the time that you first came to salvation through Christ or a time where He became real to you.  Do you still have the same fear, awe, and love for Him today?
Nothing is hidden from the Lord.  He desires our honesty and vulnerability.  Ask the Lord to search your heart.  What are some areas where you have kept hidden from the Lord? 
By His grace and mercy, we can come to the Father as we are today.  Whatever you feel you are doing and trying to do to earn His love, come to Him as a broken sinner so that through Christ He can heal and forgive you.  Spend some time in reflection and prayer.
