I. Renewing of the Covenant (vv. 1-9)
To restore covenant relationship with God. (vv. 1-5)
To test their faith. (vv. 7-8)
To remove the past guilt. (v. 9)
II. God wanted Israelites to remember His grace (vv. 10-12)
Through celebrating the feast of Passover, God reminds them of His grace which will continue to cover them. (v. 10)
Now the manna was gone. Does this mean God no longer providing for them? God still provided, He just did it in a different way. (vv. 11-12)
III. God wanted to reassure His presence and make clear who was in charge
(vv. 13-15)
God reassures Joshua of His presence. (v. 13)
Joshua was reminded that he was second in command. (v. 14)
Recognition of Holy ground (v. 15)
IV. Application:
The main lesson of Joshua 5 is that we must be spiritually prepared if we are going to do God’s work successfully and bring glory to Him. How are you going to prepare yourself?
God wants to be the first in command in all areas of your life. Are there any areas of your life where you’re still trying to be first in command?
