Experiencing God (5): Hearing God When He Speaks II
Rev. Neil Kim
(1 Kings 19:11-13)

 I. What should you expect when you pray?
God may give you something different than what you were asking for.
God may remain silent for a reason.
You can respond to God’s silence as follows:
You can either become impatient and frustrated, or give up.
Or you can be patient and wait until He speaks trusting that God knows what’s best for you.
You must learn to wait on the Lord. (James 5:7-8)

 II. God speaks through circumstances.
God uses circumstances to reveal what He is about to do in your life.
When you face difficulties and hardships or confusing situations:
First, you need go to God and ask Him to show you from His perspective about the situation you’re in.
Then, you faithfully continue to do what you’ve been doing and patiently wait on Him until He speaks to you.
You need to remember:
God is sovereign and loving.
You must trust that His sustaining grace will see you through the situation.

III. God speaks to us through His people as a community.
God had always intended for His church to function as a body (community), not as individual parts.
A church or community should not be divided.  God called us together as a community, a church, a holy nation. (Ephesians 4:15-16)
God made us mutually interdependent.  We need one another.

 IV. Application
Have you ever asked God something for a long time and not received it or received something else?  Share.
Have you ever been in a hopeless situation where there was no one to help you, yet when you stuck it out, eventually God pulled you out?
