Back to the Basics
(Matthew 25:31-46)
Rev. Sara Pyon
I. The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats
Not always easy to distinguish between sheep and goats
Separation at the end with different destinations
II. Sheep commended for what they did for Jesus
Doing something for Jesus = Doing something for the most needy
Didn’t have to be big sacrifices
III. Goats judged for what they didn’t do for Jesus
Sin of omission (James 4:17)
From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded (Luke 12:48; Parable of the Talents)
IV. Not talking about the condition of salvation, but the evidence of salvation
(1 John 3:14-18)
V. Reflection
Based on Jesus’ definition, when was the last time you did something for Jesus? Would you confidently say that there is evidence of salvation in your life? Why or why not?
What is your most memorable experience of receiving an unexpected kindness? How did it impact / change you?
Who are ‘the least of these brothers of Jesus’ in your life that you’ve been neglecting? How should you share Christ’s love with them? Come up with specific plans.
