(33) An Intimate Prayer
(John 17:1-26)
Rev. Mark Kosko

 I. Introduction: Jesus Prays to his Father before his Final Hour
Jesus was not addressing his Disciples or anyone else.
We have the privilege of witnessing the intimacy of Jesus praying to God on our behalf.

II. Jesus Prayed for Glorification of His Completed Work
Eternal Life through the One True God and his Son
Jesus’ obedience leads him back to the Glory he had before the world began.

III. Jesus Prayed for his Disciples
They were kept safe while with Jesus but later suffered persecution as they were sent out.
They were in the world but not of the world that hated them.
If we don’t have a fear and reverence for God, then fear the evil realm of this world without Him.

IV. Jesus Prays for the Community After He’s Gone
Jesus Prayed for all of those who will believe in Him through the Disciple’s message.
Jesus Prayed for Us!

 V. Application:
Do you feel confident as a Christian to be “in” this world but not “of” this world and its temptations and distractions?
How do you feel God is calling you to make Him known in the sphere of influence of your world?
