(20) The Bread that Keeps on Giving (John 6:41-59)

 I. Stubborn Hearts Produce Grumbling (v. 41)
Grumbling led to fierce arguing among the Jews (v. 52)
Grumbling is contagious – many disciples joined in (v. 61)
Grumbling offends God (Numbers 14:26-29)

 II. Familiarity Breeds Contempt (v. 42)
Ignored other crucial facts
Blinded by selfish motives & prejudice

 III. Humble Hearts Receive Saving Faith (vv. 44-47)
No one can come to God apart from the work of the Holy Spirit (vv. 44-45)
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (vv. 46-47; John 20:27)

 IV. Eat Jesus’ Flesh and Drink His Blood
To live forever (v. 51)
To have life (v. 53; John 10:10)
To abide in Christ & bear fruit (v. 56; John 15:5)

 V. Application
Are you quick to grumble or complain? What causes you to grumble against God the most?  What can you do to develop a spirit of thanksgiving in all circumstances?
Think about how you spent your resources (time, money, energy, etc.) last week. How much of it was spent to pursue the ‘earthly bread’ and how much of it to pursue Jesus Christ, the bread of life?  How successful are you in sharing this bread of life with others in your daily life?
