“A Kind Act Matters to God” - Ruth 2:1-20
Pastor Neil Kim

The story of Ruth teaches us that God is always good to those common people like you and me who are being faithful in the common, daily routines of life.  A simple act of kindness today or tomorrow can bring blessings that you never imagined.

 I. Two different attitudes:
Naomi was bitter and was blaming God for everything that happened in her life. (v. 1:20-21)
Ruth could have chosen Naomi’s despair and bitterness, but instead she looked to God’s provision (v. 2:2).  She was a foreigner, widow and poor.  Yet she refused to waste time feeling sorry for herself.

II. God was working behind the scenes for Ruth: (v. 2:3)
God led Ruth to the right place.  The eye of faith reveals this “All things were working together for good” (Romans 8:28).
This was not an accident.  God had orchestrated it (divine appointment).
As we trust in God, He will direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

III. God provides provision through Boaz:
God causes Boaz to take notice of Ruth (v. 2:6-7).
God provides shelter and protection through Boaz (v. 2:8-9)

IV. God provides more than Ruth ever imagined:
Ruth returns to Naomi and Naomi is amazed at the amount of grain Ruth has gathered (v. 2:18)
Was this a stroke of luck or blessing?
This was the evidence of God’s blessing on Ruth for her kindness and faithfulness toward Naomi.
Ruth marries Boaz and becomes the grandmother of King David.

 V. Application
There are many ways we can show God’s kindness at home and at work.  Share what you can do.
Think about the past times you were in trouble or uncertain and share how God watched out for you.
