 “All You Can Do is Laugh” - Genesis 17

 I. The Renewal of the Covenant
Again 13 years have gone by without a sign of fulfillment
God checks on the relationship with Him before He confirms the promise
God confirms the covenant
God changes Abram’s name, thus his identity
God orders the rite of circumcision

 II. The Response of the Man of God
He laughs (resignation and acceptance)
He suggests the second choice

 III. More Specific Promise
I will listen to your desires concerning Ishmael
By this time next year you will have a son

 IV. Abraham’s Response
He receives circumcision on that day
He gives Ishmael circumcision, too.

 V. Lessons
When you are about to give up God comes back
When you are about to spoil He saves
God will work together for good
God helps to sustain your dream!
