I. The Promise Keeps on Delayed (v. 1)
II. So Resort to a Worldly Scheme (vv. 2-3)
III. The Results are Obvious (vv. 4-6)
1. Hagar despises her master
2. The master is enraged
3. Abraham only tries to abdicate his responsibility by avoiding it
4. Hagar flees
IV. Mercy awaits Hagar by the Spring (vv. 7-14)
1. The angel was waiting for her
2. Tells her to go back and obey
3. Promised her son will prosper
4. Told her He hears her misery
5. She remembers Him as “The One Who Sees Me”
V. Conclusion
1. God understands how difficult it is to wait
2. A momentary careless mistake can result in lasting consequences
VI. Application
1. Have you ever made a similar mistake to the one Abraham made because you couldn’t wait? What were the consequences?
2. How do you feel when other people are paying the price of your mistake? And what do you say about God’s mercy that covers your sin inspite of your fault?
3. What do you sense and learn from Abraham’s ill decision after having waited for 10 years?
4. Do you often encounter “The One Who Sees Me” in your own life?
