“Faith Expressing Itself Through Love”
Galatians 5:2-6
I. Warning to Those who Embrace Legalism
Christ will be no value to you at all
You must obey the whole law (Gal 3:10; James 2:10-11)
Alienated from Christ (Col 1:21; Eph 2:11-13): means “to be __________”
Fallen away from grace: means “to lose one’s __________ on something”
II. To Live by Grace
Means “to depend on the power of the Spirit”
In contrast, to live by the law means “to depend on my own strength”
“In the flesh” means “We __________ hard for the righteousness we earn”
“By faith” means “We wait for the fulfillment of righteousness”
III. Imparted Righteousness
We have “imparted” righteousness, because we are justified by __________
But one day, there will be a __________ righteousness (Rom 8:30)
So we __________!
IV. Faith Expressing Itself Through Love (Col 1:10-11)
Faith without works is dead (James 2:17)
It has to be expressed through love
V. For Freedom, Stand Firm!
Freedom to live and walk in a new kind of power (Phil. 4:13)
To obey with joy and delight (1 Pet. 1:8-9; Ps. 119:111-112)
To have immediate access to God the Father (Heb. 10:19)
To relax in God’s presence (1 John 3:19)
VI. Application
Discuss the difference between “living by faith” and “living in the flesh.”
Describe in your own words what “faith without works is dead” means. How would you apply this truth in your own life?
Have you “backslidden” before? Share your experience. How did you come back?
