Mark was born in Seoul, South Korea but was adopted in 1969 at the age of two by an American caucasian family. He was raised in a Christian home in a small town in Washington state. He attended college there as well, obtaining a degree in music. He still continues to play trumpet occasionally but is also focused on his service to the Lord, family and law practice.
He attended Syracuse University School of Law in 1996. While pursuing his law degree he also participated in a summer law internship program in Seoul, South Korea. It was a profound experience for him personally as it was the first time he had returned to Korea since leaving as an infant. He also met his wife, Jennifer Whang, during that summer as she was an American law student participating in the same internship program in Korea.
They married in Seattle, WA in 1999 but then immediately moved to Washington D.C. when Jennifer began working as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice. Mark has been in private practice as a criminal defense lawyer in MD for 11 years.
They have lived in MD for the past 9 years and have 6 year old son named Julian and a Dachshund named Stretch. They began attending NCFC in 2004. Their Christian faith has grown immeasurably, especially for Mark. He experienced something of an awakening by the Lord on October 18, 2006. Not long thereafter he felt a calling to enroll in seminary. In 2010 he completed his first year at Biblical Theological Seminary located in Hatfield, PA. He attends seminary full time while also continuing to work as an attorney.
Mark is humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve at this local body in Christ and looks forward to what God has planned for him as he continues to seek Him while serving others.
