Hey, I’m Back!
It’s good to be home!
Our family certainly had a wonderful vacation. Thanks for your prayers.
It was an incredible time. It was a time of re-discovery and re-acquaintance, re-bonding as a family. We really enjoyed one another’s company, most of the time. It was very intriguing as well as fascinating to work and live as a team, on the road, sharing very limited space, most of the time usually 24-7.
We had some moments of family conflict, arguments, tears, but mostly a lot of horsing around and laughter. Boy, did we laugh a lot! However, most of all, we learned again how precious we are to one another, and how deep our appreciation is for one another.
Interestingly, one of the M’Cheyne Bible readings during our trip was Psalm 139. It added to my understanding and appreciation of our family.
“For You created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Your works are wonderful,
and I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from
when I was made in secret place.
When I was woven together in the depth of the earth,
Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me
were written in Your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are Your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them! (Psalm 139:13-17)”
This is so true! Our God, the Maker of heaven and the earth has also made each of us. He designed and shaped and molded us to be “unique” and “wonderful.” He never makes mistakes and He never fails.
That’s what we’ve found out for each other on this trip. We came to understand and appreciate our weaknesses and strengths as never before. It was good to see Stephanie and Elliott enjoy vacation freely because they didn’t have the usual stress of school work for the first time in a long time. It was good to see my wife enjoy a rare long vacation, too, even though she had to work some nights. It was also good to see my mom and share our joy together.
As most of you know, Elliott left for Australia directly from Korea. He bravely managed to say good-bye and walked into the airport. I know God has something very special for him. The rest of the family came back last Sunday, and I came back Friday.
As I have freshly been reminded how precious family is, I cannot stress enough how true that is also true for the spiritual family of God. We are so uniquely made, sometimes it’s a wonder we don’t have more conflict. At the same time because we are a family, we witness the incredible work of the Holy Spirit to keep us united. I thank God that I belong to a church where that is true.
I missed you! I missed your smiles, I missed your laughter, I missed your tears, and I missed your love. It’s good to be home!
